Influence of Sc Microalloying on the Microstructure of Al5083 Alloy and Its Strengthening Effect

In this study, we investigate the influence of Sc microalloying on microstructure Al5083 alloy. Trace amounts addition drastically improve mechanical properties alloy from 216 MPa to 233 MPa. Macroscopically, significantly reduces grain size Al by approximately 50%. Additionally, a microstructural investigation reveals that element induces fine Al3Sc nanoprecipitates in matrix. The formation results pinning effect dislocations, leading accumulated dislocations. Compared Sc-free specimen, number density dislocations Sc-added increases after hot rolling, enhancing tensile properties. We reveal improved with originate refinement and nanoprecipitates.
